Baby's First Story Time

Baby’s first story time:

A gentle guide into reading with your newborn.

Why read to your baby now?

Even from birth, your baby is listening, watching and bonding. Reading to your baby strengthens your connection and supports early brain development and helps them feel safe and soothed.

Tip:

Try reading at the same time each day- after a feed or before a nap. It helps create a calming routine for both of you.

How to read to your newborn

  1. Get close and cosy

Hold your baby where they can see the book.

 2. Go slow, with feeling

Read gently and with emotion. Your tone and rhythm is even more important than the words.

 3. Pause and point

Babies love high contrast images and shapes. Point to the pictures slowly- even newborns begin to track movement!

 4. Talk about the pictures

Make little comments "look at the swirly spiral!" or "Thats your tiny foot!". This builds early language skills

 5. Repeat often

Repetition helps your baby feel secure and begin to recognise words, patterns and routines.
